Taking part in my Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expedition in Elan Valley, Wales, along with 99 other students from Godalming College, was one of the most rewarding and challenging experiences I have ever faced.

Over several days of trekking, wild camping, and navigating through uneven terrain, I learned the true meaning of resilience, teamwork, and determination.

The unpredictable weather added to the challenge. One moment the sun was shining, the next we were walking through wind and rain. Despite this, our team kept moving for over 9 hours each day, always encouraging one another to push on.

This expedition could not have been completed without teamwork. Everyone had different strengths, some were better at map reading, others at motivating the group, and some at keeping spirits high when things got tough. By combining these strengths, we became a stronger team.

Our walk was organised by Expedition Wales, who supported both our practise and final expedition. However the involvement of this organisation and travelling to Wales meant the costs were high. I am extremely grateful for the funding and support from Bramshott Educational Trust that made my participation in this opportunity possible.

As a part of the award, I have been volunteering at the Cancer Research shop in Liphook to help give back to my local community.

I am excited to have completed my Gold DofE Challenges and I look forward to receiving my award at the Palace next year, thank you so much for enabling this opportunity for me.
